Proust Reading- Drawing on Location at the Soho Rep

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Proust’s In Search of Lost Time The French Embassy in collaboration with Moleskine Journals organized readings at various public venues.  The MFA Illustration department was asked if students and alumni of the program could be present to record or interpret the events. I was one of four artists selected for the reading event that took place at the Soho Rep Theater, the only event in the series where the artists would have the actual creation of their work projected behind the readers as part of the performance.

The artists drew in pairs at two stations on either side of the reader in half hour “shifts”. The work here is from my three shifts plus one drawing from the wings while I waited, and a photo taken by my wife Annette Rusin during the reading.
